A vintage earthenware flagon manufactured by Pearson & Co of Chesterfield for the botanical brewer John Hollows of Spring Mills, Water Lane, Leeds for the use of ginger beer carrying.
The flagon, which is in good condition for its age, has the pottery maker's mark, as well as the additional writing - 'This bottle is the property of JOHN HOLLOWS and any person damaging or illegally using it will be prosecuted. Please insert cork when empty'.
The flagon, which has a finger holder, and was originally called a 'Grey Hen', was used for carrying ginger beer to customers. This flagon and the Harry Holgate flagon were manufactured for separate companies which all belonged to the same family, which is now known as Fentimens.
