A lovely set of Vintage Avery Platform Scales with imperial measurement, believed to date from the 1930s. Manufactured at the Birmingham-based foundry of the same name, these Avery scales are in good working condition for their age, though there are signs of wear and tear with scratches and marks to the paintwork, though we think this just adds to the lovely, aged patina they have. The rear covers to the scales are missing, though in our opinion this is a bonus as you are able to see the intricate brass workings, however it would be easy to make replacements.
The scales, which measure up to 260lbs and are divided by 8oz divisions, has its original embossed plaque detailing the type - A721 293, the patent number 276076 289249 and the machine number - B14581.
Inside the scale workings there is a penciled note reading ' fixed N. Rhodes Oct 2/37 '. These scales would be a fantastic addition to any shop as a display or prop or even used as was originally intended.
