A rare, almost seven foot tall vintage Vickers Armstrong Ltd burnished metal cupboard.
Manufactured in 1937 by Vickers Armstrong Ltd, the British-based company which is probably better remembered for its range of aeroplanes, ships and armanments, this unusual metal cupboard is still in very good condition. The exterior of the cupboard has been burnished and polished with Bees wax.
The interior of the cupboard, which has five adjustable metal shelves, retains its' original green paintwork. There are some marks and scratches as you would expect from an item of this age.
There is a brass handle and lock to the door, though there is no key. However it is possible to exchange the lock barrel. The three door hinges also have brass caps.
The cupboard also retains its' original brass plaque, which bears the royal crest of King George VI. The cabinet is government issue, which are now quite rare and collectable and it is believed the cabinet was manufactured for either the use of the British army or Royal Mail.
A lovely piece of British history and vintage industrial furniture.
